Change in Season, Change in Workout

Now that the summer heat is subsiding and winter is slowly creeping up on us, take advantage of the crisp fall days and change your workout. There are a multitude of opportunities to get moving. Enjoy being active alone or with family and friends. The holiday season is a time many people worry about weight gain, constantly being surrounded by unhealthy foods, and disruptions in a consistent schedule. Let’s try and shift your mindset and change your workout.

With fall comes pumpkin patches, apple picking, farmers’ markets, and beautiful walking and biking paths lined with colorful trees. Take advantage of what the outdoors has to offer with these 4 ways to change your workout.

  • Make it a habit to go for a walk every day. Getting back to school and work also means sitting for a majority of the day.
    • Wake up a few minutes early to go on a walk around the block
    • Go on a walk with your kids so they can play in the big piles of leaves.
    • Incorporate activities that include walking; farmers’ markets, pumpkin patches, apple picking, etc.
  • Find a trail near you. Hiking is a great form of exercise and perfect for the fall.
    • Hiking works multiple muscles and incorporates cardio at the same time.
    • It encourages you to get outside and take advantage of the beautiful weather.
    • It’s the perfect activity to do with friends and family
  • Running and biking. Fall is the ideal time to pick up running. It’s not too hot and it’s not too cold.
    • There are usually beautiful places to run or bike closer than you think. Find a path, a lake, or just around the neighborhood.
  • No gym, no problem. Since COVID-19, workout studios and various trainers have been posting their workouts online.
    • Use this opportunity to find free workouts or that aren’t overpriced.
    • Few of my recommendations: BeachBody On Demand, Fitness Blender (Youtube), DownDog
