The struggle of finding treats during this time of year that align with your healthy weight loss plans can be an issue. It may be tempting to consume those seasonal favorites that contain high levels of sugar and fats. Here’s how to find treats this time of year that align with your healthy weight loss plans:
Apple Crumble With Oats:
When thinking of fall treats, most of us would think of apple pie. Instead we recommend a recipe for a healthy alternative to apple pie while still getting the same taste and autumn feeling from the Eating Well Test Kitchen. Tip: if you want to make an individual serving, divide the apple mixture into 6 8-ounce custard cups. Bake for 35 mins or until the apples are tender.
Smart Sweets:
Craving Halloween candy but worried about the sugar and fat levels? Smart Sweets is a brand of candy that provides you with a healthy alternative with that same candy flavor. 1 bag contains 100 calories along with 0g of fat and 3g of total sugars. This product contains no added sugar and 13g of fiber. Not only are they good for you, but they taste good too! The brand is known for their Swedish fish alternative but also makes lollipops, caramels, gummy bears, and red twists (vines). The red twists, lollipops, and caramels are also plant based!
Feeling festive in the fall comes from the weather, the decorations, but most importantly the festive treats. Trying these fall festive treats can help you remain on your successful weight loss plan while not feeling like you are restricting yourself from the treats you love during this time of year.
Here’s a quick hint for you: If you buy Halloween Candy, you could be tempted to eat it yourself. This is what happened to one of my clients Brian who bought Tootsie Rolls ahead of time and put them in a bowl on the coffee table. He looked longingly each night at them, trying to use will power to avoid eating them. One day when he was extra stressed and tired after work, he sat down in front of the TV, and ate the whole bowl of Tootsie Rolls mindless, before he caught himself. The answer is if you want to buy Halloween candy for Trick or Treaters, buy it close to Halloween, or find a healthier alternative or non-food item to give away.
