Welcome to today’s video blog post. I am Kay, Loughrey, a Maryland nutritionist and dietitian and I help people build a healthy relationship with food and live a happy life at a healthy weight. So many of my coaching clients overeat and then they ask themselves, “Why did I eat that? I didn’t even want it.” I have a special tool, a proprietary tool, the 5 Steps to Stop being Controlled by Food, that I created for my clients that’s going to be in my upcoming book. I’m going to share this tool with you because I want you to have access to and benefit from this tool now. Today’s video is part of a video series playlist. At the end of this video, I’ll tell you how you can subscribe to this playlist.
Now we’re going to walk you through each of the 5 Steps to Stop Being Controlled by Food. This is a summary video of all the steps and then you’ll have access to a video for each step. The first step is to identify the trigger to a craving that usually leads to overeating. A trigger could be as simple as turning on the TV. The second step is to notice what it is you’re craving. For many coaching clients, the craving starts while watching TV after dinner, and turns into a craving for ice cream. The third step is to pause and slow down instead of going on automatic pilot, and immediately responding to the craving by eating ice cream, hand to mouth, without thinking. The fourth step is to check in with yourself and ask yourself, “What am I feeling right now? What is it that I really want?” What you truly want probably isn’t even food. Maybe what you really want is to relieve the stress from the day. Step five is, “What are my choices? What are my options instead of eating? And what is my best option?” The best option might be taking the dog out for a walk instead of watching TV. We’ve just given you the five steps to stop being controlled by food that has worked with many of my coaching clients. I invite you to subscribe to our playlist so that you can get the other five videos that explain each step as they come out. Click here to subscribe to this series and our YouTube channel.
